What good is a facade if it fails?

Website code is much like a blueprint for a building.

Imagine building a house just based on a picture. The contractor will have no specifics, and will have to rely on his judgement and own ideas, and certainly his methods of cost-cutting. The house will end up looking like the picture, but will it survive a hurricane? A power surge? Flooding? It is these specifics that are handled by the blueprint, which specifies every aspect of the standards required to build the house well.

Website code is the same thing. You can have a pretty website, that looks exactly the way you want, but if the code is unable to handle search engines, excessive traffic, or is not accessible by everyone, then your website collapses, just as a poorly build house will.

The code is the foundation, the structure, that holds up the facade which is your visual site.

Can you be found?

Imagine the Yellow Pages if the ads were not ordered and categorized.

How would you possibly find what you were looking for, in a book of random ads? Making sure that your website is developed properly is the equivalent of categorizing and ordering the Yellow Pages.
