CoolMedID is a company that provides trendy, simple, silicone wristbands, pendants and dog tags for Medical IDs. CoolMedID identified a problem with the traditional Medical Alert bracelets, in that many people didn't want to wear them, as they were so obvious as Medical IDs. By having silicone products made that identify several medical conditions, they are able to provide Medical IDs that are cool, trendy, and not blatantly obvious.
Because this is an e-commerce site, we had to put together a design that fit the image, as well as implement a shopping cart system into the site. The main concern for the "look and feel" of the website, is that it be friendly, engaging, gender neutral, appeal to younger audiences, and be "cool".
The banner, both for the main pages and for the product pages, represents color and vibrancy, which is an important image for the company. The somewhat grungy graphics are in line with today's youth and their graphic style.
CoolMedID had already had a homemade logo, which didn't represent the company at its best. In recreating the logo, we updated the fonts, modified the colors, and put in a newer style caduceus that is more in line with a modern style. We kept the colors to the traditional Medical Alert color scheme, while making the logo professional, trendy and stylish.
CoolMedID wanted to update the look of our website, and improve the "shopping cart" capability of our site. Merlee created a couple of designs for us to choose from, all of which captured the "COOL" and "Colorful" aesthetic that fits our CoolMedID products. We liked all of her templates, but in the end we were able to choose one that we just loved. Her help in switching us over to using a shopping cart program is going to really improve and automate our inventory tracking. For the e-commerce portion of the site, we integrated the Avactis Shopping Cart software to handle products, purchasing, inventory and customer contact.
Two different layouts were conceived for the website. The first, with the full banner, would be used on the main site pages, and the second, with a smaller banner, would be used on the e-commerce pages. The banner, both for the main pages and for the product pages, represents color and vibrancy, which is an important image for the company. The somewhat grungy graphics are in line with today's youth and their graphic style. By making the color scheme of the site primarily black and white, it allowed for the many, many colors of the products themselves to be highlighted without clashing or competing with the actual website design. Keeping the color in the banners, allowed for coordination with the products, without providing undue distractions.
