About Us

Thank you for taking the time to visit and wander through my site.

My name is Merlee Bos, and I am the owner of Merlee Designs, a small design studio located in Lake Orion, Michigan. My primary specialty is web design and development, though I am also very involved in identity branding; logo, print and literature design; as well as forms analysis and design.

I have been working with web design since 1998 when I first determined that I simply had to know how it worked. Thus began the obsession. With some internet tutorials, Notepad and Paint Shop Pro, I set out to figure it out, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since that time, I have worked in the IT realm for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Ontario, Canada, in the operations and web application and development group of General Motors North America, and in the forms management group of Alticor.

This fantastic corporate background gave me the well-rounded and indispensable experience I needed to merge with the freelance and creative side of my nature to be able to provide clients with a clean, usable, efficient and functional web presence. It taught me how to work in a project based work flow, how to manage change, time, scope, requirements and customers. I learned that there is a lot more to a website than a flashy front-end and a bunch of glitz. Conversely, I also learned, that no matter how functional, if a site or application is not user-friendly or attractive, the users simply will not use it.

I will not promise you a 50 page website in 3 weeks. I will not promise you a $500 solution.

I do custom web design, and that actually requires some thought. Once an idea is started, often I go back...a lot. I am not satisfied until I am satisfied, or until the customer stands up and says..."Stop! We love it!". I do not use templates unless specifically requested to do so, and your site is built from scratch. The code is clean, efficient, search engine and text reader friendly.

I prefer to educate my clients in what is going on. I explain what it is that is happening, how the site is coming along, and why certain things are done the way they are. Often a client will ask for a particular thing, and I will either say yes or no. I will be honest and up front. I will not drag out a project, or add unnecessary items to escalate the price.

Due to the flexibility of the web and print design arena, my services are ideal candidates to work with virtually. Communication with clients via phone, email and internet keeps us in touch with the latest developments, and our in-progress work can be viewed via a browser. I work hard to develop a rapport with my clients, regardless of the distance, to establish that critical relationship that makes for satisfied customers as well as a happy and productive working environment for all concerned.

If this sounds like a relationship and a business that you would like to work with, please contact me for a consultation. I would love to hear from you!
